Description

Day 1 - Darwin to Mary River

See the falls of Litchfield National Park before arriving at the Mary River Wetlands. This afternoon look for ’crocs’ and other wildlife on our private river cruise. Arrive at Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge to experience an Aboriginal Corroborree, dinner and overnight camp.

Day 2 - Mary River to Kakadu

We call in at Mamukala Wetlands then head to the awesome Jim Jim Falls to take a walk to the base of the falls before continuing on to Twin Falls. Here we join a National Park operated boat and boardwalk experience up the stunning gorge to the waterfall where you can relax on the sandy bank. We drive on to Kakadu for dinner and our overnight camp.

Day 3 - Kakadu to Darwin

Our first stop is Ubirr where we discover ancient Aboriginal rock art. We continue our journey to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where we do some hiking and enjoy a refreshing dip in the plunge pools. We then return to Darwin, enjoying the impressive scenery along the way. Dorm accommodation included

Day 4 - Darwin to Katherine Gorge

We take a look at the Adelaide River WWII War Cemetery before spending the afternoon either canoeing or cruising (at own expense) the striking Katherine (Nitmiluk) Gorge. We stay overnight in our permanent campsite.

Day 5 - Mataranka to Tennant Creek

Relax in Mataranka's crystal clear thermal pools then experience the famous Outback Aussie pub at Daly Waters. After lunch, travel south to Tennant Creek for our overnight camp at Juno Horse Farm.

Day 6 - Devils Marbles to Alice Springs

Explore the mysterious formations of the Devils Marbles before leaving for Alice Springs, and our overnight dormitory accommodation (or motel at own expense).

Day 7 - Alice Springs

A FREE day to explore Alice Springs. Overnight dorm accommodation included. (No meals)

Day 9 - Alice Springs to Kings Canyon

We depart Alice Springs via the 4WD Mereenie Loop road travelling through the spectacular Western MacDonnell Ranges to Kings Canyon. We explore Kings Canyon and view the ’Amphitheatre’, ’The Lost City’, the picturesque ’Garden of Eden’ and the breathtaking North and South Walls. We then take a refreshing dip in the waterhole (summer only). Overnight permanent camp at Kings Canyon

Day 10 - Kings Canyon to Kata Tjuta & Uluru

We depart Kings Canyon heading for Uluru (Ayers Rock). After lunch, we hike the spectacular ’Valley of the Winds’ in Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). Then we enjoy champagne while watching the desert sun set over Uluru before tucking into a hearty dinner. O/night Yulara permanent campsite.

Day 11 - Uluru to Coober Pedy

An early start is required for one of the highlights of the tour - the Uluru sunrise. You can choose to climb the rock or enjoy a walk around the base exploring its mysterious rock formations and Aboriginal art sites while watching the changing light on the desert. We then head to Mt Connor along the back roads to Mulga Park near the South Australian/NT border. This rugged area boasts some fantastic scenery that many travellers never get to see. We continue down the Highway to opal country in Coober Pedy. Overnight in an underground Bunkhouse. (NB: Upgrade to hotel accommodation available at additional expense.)

Day 12 - Coober Pedy to William Creek

We take you on a town tour of this unique place where 80% of the inhabitants live underground to escape the extreme temperatures. We visit an opal mine and watch an opal cutting demonstration (the mines here provide 95% of the worlds opals), before giving you the chance to go ’noodling’ (local language for fossicking) for your own opals. We stop at the famous Dingo fence on our way to the outback town of William Creek, population 5 (if everyone is there). Overnight camp at William Creek.

Day 13 - Oodnadatta Track to Arkaroola

We travel further into the outback on the Oodnadatta track, following the path of the Old Ghan railway past Lake Eyre South and Marree onto Arkaroola Sanctuary and our overnight camp.

Day 14 - Arkaroola to Wilpena Pound

Up early to explore some of Arkaroola Sanctuary and then off to the Flinders Ranges for lunch. We spend the afternoon exploring Wilpena Pound, the jewel of the Flinders, including the climb to Mt Ohlsen, which is rewarded with magnificent views over the ranges, the desert and Lake Torrens. O/night camp in the Flinders Ranges

Day 15 - Flinders Ranges to Adelaide

We visit the ruins of Kanyaka homestead before travelling through the southern Flinders passing small country towns like Hawker, Quorn, and Melrose. We take a break in the beautiful Clare Valley, then continue on to Adelaide.

Meals are The operator’s emphasis is on fresh food wherever possible and their meals are nutritious and varied. If you are vegetarian or gluten intolerant you can be catered for, but if you have very specific dietary needs you may need to provide your own food, so please discuss this at time of booking. For breakfast cereals, toast, tea and coffee are supplied. Lunch is usually a self-serve sandwich and salads; in the evening there is a cooked dinner. They always carry water in the vehicle and you will often have the chance to buy your own drinks, ice creams etc at stops.
