Airline chief executive, John Campbell said discussions with a local airline were continuing but due to a confidentiality agreement details could not be released. He said the airline's intention was to operate domestic services by the end of the year. Air Pacific has been talking to Sun Air (Pacific) Limited since last month to buy out its fleet. Meanwhile Airports Fiji Limited is looking for financial sources to upgrade its airports on outer islands. AFL's public relations officer, Prashita Ram said an Asian Development Bank report that is yet to be tabled in parliament had made some suggestions. She said the report had details of how improvements could be made. Ms Ram said the Government gave $1million annually for the upkeep of the airports on outer islands. She said this was not enough to do major upgrading works. Ms Ram said options of getting loans from banks, international agencies, airlines and the private sector would be looked at. She said no formal talks were held with Air Pacific so far but once the report was made public the issue could be discussed with interested parties. Air Pacific intends to import a new aircraft for the domestic market. In an earlier interview, Mr Campbell said airfields would require upgrading to achieve the potential of the new aircraft the company intended to introduce. He said some interim aircraft compromises would have to be made until the upgrading works were done. (Source: Fiji Times 16/09/2005)
