The naming of Muirhead Reef in memory of a distinguished Queensland cartographer was commemorated with a presentation to his family at Parliament House today. Natural Resources Minister Stephen Robertson said the naming of this section of the Great Barrier Reef, located 170 kilometres off Proserpine, was in honour of the late Mr William Muirhead's long and distinguished career.
Thanks to recent changes to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority website as well as the release of an upgraded CD ROM it will now be easier to find the new Marine Park zone co-ordinates.

A generous boost in funding for the protection of the Great Barrier Reef, in this year’s Federal Budget, was today welcomed by scientists and staff at the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority in Townsville.
