The WDC is dedicated to promoting the right balance between social, environmental and economic interests, in order to secure growth that will truly benefit the community. The organisation exists to:
1. encourage local manufacturers, primary producers and business people generally;
2. facilitate new employment opportunities;
3. advise government on problems generally affecting the Whitsundays;
4. carry out research;
5. gather data and produce statistical reports;
6. provide a forum for development issues;
7. encourage unity and cooperation amongst all development stakeholders involved in the area;
8. provide a point of contact for development initiatives within the Whitsundays; and
9. provide a high level lobbying function for developers operating in the Shire.
