Mr Mackenroth said the workshops would benefit people involved in sport at all levels including coaches, officials, administrators and instructors.

"The club governance workshops cover many areas including strategic management, legal compliance, ethics and financial monitoring," Mr Mackenroth said.

A workshop on creating a safe environment for children and young people will also be held in Airlie Beach during October.

Mr Mackenroth said the Building Active Communities workshops were one of many ways the Government was working directly with communities to address current trends and issues facing the sport and recreation industry.

"Having a better skilled workforce and support base, particularly at the grassroots level, is vital in getting more Queenslanders active," he said.

"So whether you're a coach, official, teacher, parent, club administrator or player, I encourage everyone to come along and attend one or all of these workshops and access quality information and training."

He said the workshops had been designed so they can be attended as a series or as one-offs.

The Cannonvale Building Active Communities Workshop series will be held at the Whitsunday PCYC, Shute Harbour Road, Jubilee Pocket, Airlie Beach on the following days:

* Wednesday, October 6 (6pm - 9pm) - Club governance Part A

* Thursday, October 7 (6pm - 9pm) - Club governance Part B

* Monday, October 18 (6pm - 9pm) - Creating a safe environment for children and young people

To reserve a place at the workshops contact Sport and Recreation Queensland on (07) 4938 4805.
